Jackson Township Community Band
The Jackson Township Community Band was founded in Hoosierville of Clay County on McNutt farm in 1915. This farmboys band was taught by J. Gus Davis who became the first director. Through the years, the JTCB played events ranging from church, ice cream socials, political events and funerals.
During WWII, the JTCB was always on call for patriotic callings. After the war, the JTCB travelled to scores of conventions by both the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Highlights included concerts and parades in New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, New Orleans, Chicago, Atlanta, Baltimore, and Boston.
For many years the JTCB has been a mainstay at festivals in Merom, Brazil, Linton, Clinton, Hymera, Bloomfield and now here in Farmersburg.
Since 1996, The JTBC has been a main attraction for the Home and Family Arts Pavilion at the Indiana State Fair each year. The JTCB features traditional concert band music of composers such as Fred Jewell, Karl L. King, Henry Fillmore and John Philip Sousa.
Under the direction of Matthew S Huber, the 30 member JTCB continues the tradition of live American concert band music.
Farmersburg's own Elise (Buckner) Pratt is a member of the band as well as the Brazil Concert Band. NCHS band director Norm Hanson, is also a member of this and the Brazil Concert Band. |
