Each year our 501(c)3 organization awards at least (2) two $250 scholarships to a graduating senior based on need that has gone through Farmersburg School. This is done through North Central Jr/Sr High School Dollars for Scholars. These scholarships awarded at the Senior Awards Banquet held at North Central Jr/Sr High School the week before graduation.
To get the scholarship money, the student must present a letter from the registars office of the college they attending. They receive 1/2 of the money the first semester and must repeat the process to receive the second 1/2 of the scholarship for the second semester.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN....
Our 2001 Fall Festival held the end of Oct. and sponsored by our organization netted us $500, so we decided that that was a nice amount to give in scholarships. In 2002 we changed the name to the Fall Scholarship Festival. Now we do not have this festival due to lack of help and interest. We help the Fire Department hold a Community Halloween Party and Haunted House every 2 years. We want to continue this tradition and we can with everyone's help. The Car Show held during Old Settlers helps to fund our scholarships now.
Anyone wanting to contribute to the Farmersburg Old Settlers Scholarship fund may do so at Old Settlers or by contacting Rose Ann Gaskins at the Farmersburg Library or 812-243-3469.
